Let’s do a positive fact today. Many of you know but many don’t. On April 11, 2017, Taiwan passed a legal amendment to their Animal Protection Act banning the consumption of dog and cat meat! The original ban from 2001 only banned the sale of dog and cat meat but this amendment raises the penalties as the original penalties simply (as in most cases) were ignored by both the officials and the perpetrators because the punishment was minimal. Legislator Wang Yu-min proposed these changes in response to the number of high-profile incidents of animal abuse. Penalties for violating this new amendment will include up to two years imprisonment and fines of $6,500 to $65,000 for first time offenses and $16,000 to $160,000 for repeat offenses. I’m so excited about this I have to wear a belly band to keep from peeing!!
